Candice Aouad (Psychologist)

Candice is a generally registered psychologist who has worked with people from a broad range of backgrounds. Candice began her career working with children to develop social skills through play. Candice has worked with people who use substances in both residential and community settings, and then transitioned to working with young people with severe and complex mental health concerns.

Candice has previously worked as a Senior Clinician in the headspace Early Psychosis Program and has extensive experience working within the community services sector. During her time in the community services sector, Candice was able to develop an understanding of the need for a person-centred approach to care. Candice has an interest in neuroscience and loves talking about the brain and its functions! Candice has previously delivered trainings on substance use, the brain, and psychological interventions and enjoys utilising this knowledge to support her clients better understand themselves and their environment.

Candice has experience in formally assessing cognitive, adaptive, and neurodevelopmental functioning, and works to support clients and their families manage emotional, behavioural, and social concerns. Candice uses an evidence-based approach and is certified in a number of interventions including Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance, Commitment Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Candice has experience working with people of neurodiverse backgrounds including people who have a diagnosis of ASD, ADHD, and Specific Learning Disorders. Candice enjoys working from a goal directed perspective using an integrated approach to interventions and works with the family and wider community in mind. Candice enjoys working with people from diverse cultural and social backgrounds and is passionate about breaking the stigma around mental health within marginalised communities. Candice speaks both English and Arabic (Lebanese Dialect) fluently and has worked extensively with people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds.
