Anxiety Treatment Gold Coast – Children, Adolescents & Adults
Anxiety is the most common mental health condition in Australia, affecting children, adolescents and adults alike. At Family Nurture on the Gold Coast, our multidisciplinary team — including psychiatrists, psychologists, and accredited mental health social workers — provides comprehensive anxiety assessment and treatment for people of all ages across Southeast Queensland and North NSW.
Types of Anxiety We Treat
Our team has experience treating a wide range of anxiety disorders, including Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Social Anxiety Disorder, Separation Anxiety (particularly in children), Panic Disorder, Specific Phobias, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD — see our dedicated OCD page), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and School Refusal related to anxiety.
How We Treat Anxiety
Treatment at Family Nurture is tailored to each individual and may include: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) — the gold standard psychological treatment for anxiety, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) for emotional regulation, EMDR for trauma-related anxiety, Medication management by our psychiatrists when clinically appropriate, and Family therapy to support children and adolescents.
Anxiety in Children & Adolescents
Anxiety in young people can look different to adult anxiety — it may present as school refusal, physical complaints (stomach aches, headaches), irritability, or clinginess. Early intervention is important. Our child and adolescent psychiatrists and psychologists specialise in identifying and treating anxiety in young people using evidence-based, developmentally appropriate approaches.
How to Get Started
A GP referral under a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) is required to see our psychologists with Medicare rebates. A standard GP referral is required for our psychiatrists. Contact Family Nurture on the Gold Coast to discuss the most appropriate clinician for your situation.
