Depression Treatment Gold Coast – Children, Adolescents & Adults

Depression affects people of all ages and can significantly impact a person’s ability to function at home, school, or work. At Family Nurture on the Gold Coast, our experienced psychiatrists and psychologists provide comprehensive depression assessment and treatment for children, adolescents and adults across Southeast Queensland and North NSW.

How Depression Presents

Depression can look different across age groups. In children and adolescents, it may present as irritability, withdrawal from activities, changes in school performance, sleep disturbance, or unexplained physical complaints, rather than the sadness typically associated with adult depression. Adults may experience persistent low mood, fatigue, loss of interest, difficulty concentrating, or changes in appetite and sleep.

Our Approach to Depression Treatment

Our multidisciplinary team offers evidence-based treatment, including Psychological therapies (CBT, ACT, DBT, interpersonal therapy), Psychiatric assessment and medication management (antidepressants, mood stabilisers where appropriate), EMDR for depression linked to trauma, Occupational therapy to support daily functioning and routines, and Family therapy to support the young person’s network.

Depression in Young People

Childhood and adolescent depression is often under-recognised. Our child and adolescent psychiatrists are trained to identify and treat depression in young people, including complex presentations involving trauma, neurodevelopmental conditions, or chronic illness.

How to Get Started
